Clearing the Ashes

I am fascinated by the incredibly rich fossil history that we have on this island, and am drawn to the complex and naturally ornate forms that continue to be revealed through the work of archaeologists across the province. Every time I gaze upon a trilobite or shell specimen I strive to place myself in the shoes of those who search for them, imagining the excitement they must feel with each new discovery. I image it to be similar to the excitement I feel as I wipe away the ash and debris from a freshly fired vase, not knowing exactly what will lay beneath but knowing it will be different and unique from the last, a treasure all of its own.
